Your Rat Vac’s Power
Set it up right, and you’ll clear infestations faster, safer, and without touching a single rodent
Step 1: Setup & Test
- Use 16-gallon Ridgid/Craftsman 6.5 HP ShopVac for large rats (6 HP for mice).
- Snap the black cover off to access the sensor power plug.
- Perform the Paper Towel Test to ensure the motion sensor activates and suction is working at full power.
Step 2: Load Bait Tray
- Load the bait plate generously with crunchy peanut butter.
- Pre-bait the entry by smearing a little at the front opening.
Step 3: Set & Disguise
- Indoors: Place flush against walls; disguise with boxes or furniture.
- Outdoors: Blend with branches, firewood, or debris.
- Rats are neophobic (fearful of new objects). Disguising the RatVac reduces suspicion and increases catch rates.
Step 4: Shop Vac Setup
- Make sure vacuum drum plug at the bottom is tight to prevent leakage.
- Remove the filter and add 7–9 inches of water to the vacuum drum.
- Add a few drops of dish soap to ensure rats are weighed down and can’t escape.
- If you prefer to catch and release, only add 3 inches of water and a bit of soap, then relocate the rodents once trapped.
