The Ultimate UV Tracking Powder for Rats & Mice

The Ultimate UV Tracking Powder for Rats & Mice

Does UV Tracking Powder Work for Rats & Mice?

When it comes to stopping rats & mice or any other animal intruding into your home, identifying the entry points is the MOST crucial.

Here at Twin Home Experts, we use all sorts of tools to help with identifying the holes that lead into homes & businesses allowing rodents inside, and one of the tools in our arsenal is UV tracking powder.

As leading rodent control experts, our number one priority when we service a client is locating the holes that are causing the activity.

This part of rodent control is the most challenging, as rats & mice enter from the smallest size holes that a normal visual inspection makes it challenging.

This is where we depend and use the UV tracking powder from Rodent Stoppers, designed by the Twins.

This has been a game changer in detection, particularly in larger structures, crawl spaces & attics.

When rats enter into a structure, they typically intrude from one or two holes. Once they’re inside, they have a specific path they follow, and that’s where the tracking powder comes in handy.

Why It’s Effective

UV tracking powder is especially useful because it adheres to rodents’ fur and feet, leaving behind a glowing trail visible under a blacklight. This helps pinpoint their exact paths and enables targeted action to seal entry points and control the infestation.

How Do You Use UV Tracking Powder?

When we first arrive at a project, we perform a walkthrough with the client to take notes about the areas with the most activity, when the issue approximately started, and any other observations. Afterward, we conduct a thorough investigation.

Based on the visual inspection, we apply tracking powder in areas where we locate:

  • Nesting sites
  • Droppings
  • Runways with sebum or grease marks
  • Electrical lines
  • Plumbing pipes
  • HVAC ducting
  • Burrows and contaminated insulation

Take a small round or square container about 4” by 4”. Apply peanut butter to the surface, then cover it with the container to protect it from the powder. Apply the powder around the entire baited area approximately 14” in diameter. Once finished, remove the cover.

We like placing a security camera as well during this process so we can see the level of activity. We wait for a few days, then return with our professional UV black flashlight and begin to track their migration.

Another use of tracking powder is after you have found and sealed the entry points, and you’ve placed your rat trapping devices. Apply the powder in front of your rat & mouse traps.

This helps in case you’ve missed an entry point. If the rodents do not take the bait for 2 to 4 days but are interested in the bait, they will cross over the powder, attaching it to their fur & feet and heading toward their entry & exits into your property—helping you identify the final hole.

Additional Use of Tracking Powder:

After sealing entry points and setting rat traps, apply tracking powder in front of the traps. If rodents are hesitant to take the bait for 2–4 days, they’ll still cross the powder. This allows the powder to attach to their fur and feet, helping identify any missed entry points as they move toward their ingress and egress routes.

What Does Tracking Powder Do to Rats & Mice?

The tracking powder we use is non-toxic, unlike others on the market.

Products like Ditrak are poisons, which we do not believe in. Licensed professionals can only apply these products, and they cause secondary damages within your property, such as:

  • Dead carcasses hidden within walls or floors
  • Foul odors
  • Blowfly infestations

Our tracking powder binds to the fur & feet, allowing the rodents to leave their track markings and giving us the ability to track 'em and stop 'em.

Where Not to Use Tracking Powder

While UV tracking powder is an excellent detection tool, there are a few places it should not be used.

We never use tracking powder inside a property with carpet. The powder’s fine particles (0.3 microns) can embed themselves in carpet fibers, making it very difficult to clean and remove.

For all other surfaces, tracking powder is safe and highly effective.

How Much Tracking Powder Should You Apply?

For larger structures, we recommend applying a generous amount of tracking powder in several high-activity areas. By stretching the powder across key pathways, you can quickly locate the root of the problem and identify the rodents’ ingress points.

Applying sufficient tracking dust ensures the rodents will come into contact with it and allows for more accurate tracking and faster resolutions.

In order to outsmart rodents and win the battle, you need all the necessary tools—including UV tracking powder dust. This tool allows you to track 'em and ultimately stop them from entering your home or property.

By sealing entry points with proper materials and trapping effectively, you can achieve complete rodent eradication.
